Gabriola Thanksgiving Studio Tour nearly here!

Gabriola island is one of Canada's Gulf islands. It is situated right in the centre, between the southern and northern groups of Gulf islands, just off the coast of Vancouver Island. That sounds like a whole lot of islands. If you haven't visited them, now is the time in October, when Canada celebrates their Thanksgiving holiday. Gabriola is easily accessed by ferry from the city of Nanaimo -a 20 minute ride, or from Vancouver direct by Float Plane, an even shorter ride.

Gabriola is known as the "Isle of the Arts" and has a high population of visual artists, musicians and writers. This weekend, 81 visual artists open their studios ( 62) for free self guided tours. The island is not big so easy to get around by car or bike, or even by our local bus"Gertie".

Tomorrow night, Thursday October 6, will be a tour "kick-off" , opening and party at the "Hive Emporium" in Folk lIfe Village. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a social time with music, snacks and drinks and view one piece from every studio!

At the weekend, studios will be open for 3 days, including Monday October 10, from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. For more information call the Arts Council 250 247 7409 or email

My studio is # 57. Email me( see contact information) if you want to visit my studio at the weekend, or at any other time, I can set up a viewing.

I will have a range of items for sale, including paintings of various sizes in oil and watercolour. The main theme is still life but also some studies of Gabriola interior waterways and coastal scenes, a variety of drawings and collage. The prices are reasonable, no tax included and quite a few sale items as well as a variety of art cards. Lots to choose to add to your collections, or for gifts. Below is an example for my narrative series "Ackender Road" :- "We Slept in a Feather Bed"

See you at the weekend!
